Strategic Shifts in Intranet Team Structure, Services, and Processes
In November 2004, Biogen Idec launched iNet - a new, structured intranet. Along with the Delivery Team that developed iNet, Biogen Idec had a User Relations Team whose purpose was to liaise with the business areas and help them use and leverage the new intranet.
By February 2006, 90 % of the business areas were on-boarded, content had increased, and both the user and author base were more experienced. Also, there was a subtle but distinct expansion in operational aspects of managing the content and user/author community.
The User Relations Team was facing new or heightened needs, including:
- An approach for search maintenance in an increasingly complex content base.
- Facilitation of organisational recognition for the on-going work of the authors.
- More rigorous content maintenance and quality assurance processes for the growing content base.
- Requests for advanced tips and techniques for an increasingly proficient author community.
- Support of site redesigns to mirror significant organisational changes.
In order to address this kind of needs, the User Relations Team had to rethink its existing structure and support model. The discussion will cover the resulting strategic shifts in services, processes, and roles.
Joint session with case presented by Maarten Korz from De Lage Landen International.
