One company - one intranet: Consolidating dispersed intranet landscape
Wednesday, November 8th, 11.00
Category: Intermediate
Track: Intranet
Case: UPM
UPM's intranet landscape has developed into a collection 28 inter-independent intranets in the course of the past decade.
A little over a year ago, we noticed that the content of our intranet was starting to fragment - containing a lot of outdated information, multiple versions of the documents, partially optimised local solutions, and so on. As a result, users started to loose their trust in the offering of the intranet.
Something had to be done.
Our new intranet, scheduled to launch at the end of 2006, will consolidate the dispersed intranet landscape into one global online portal.
This presentation will focus on the work done to develop a concept that would suit everyone - over 30,000 people in various locations and cultures all over the world.
Markku will share our thinking, aiming at making "one size fit all": A user-centric portal with function-, language- and culture-neutral navigation, extensive use of taxonomy based metadata, and process driven content management.
Joint session with case presented by Christoph Schacher from Wienerberger.
